attempting Warli

Warli paintings are a form of Indian tribal art. These have originated in the villages and rural areas of Maharashtra within the Warli tribe. These paintings are drawn on the walls of huts or mud houses in the villages. These paintings are a form of line work where human figures are drawn with triangles representing bodies , lines representing limbs and small circles representing heads These paintings were drawn by the Warli tribe people to depict an important event in their lives, be it something happy or sad. Mostly these paintings are used to depict celebrations in the Warli villages. Celebrations like festivals, marriages, harvesting season, activities like hunting, farming etc. Traditionally these paintings are drawn by the new bride of the house and are considered to be auspicious , bringing good luck and prosperity.
These are generally drawn in white color with a dark maroon background.

Over a period of time number of variations have been seen. These days we come to see colorful forms of warli and even metal and wooden artifacts displaying this tribal art.

Here is a warli painting that i made on one of the walls in my new house. I find this art form very simple yet attractive as it doesn't involve use of multiple colors or shading. In my painting I have tried to depict different events in the Warli village.
  • Left top represents the harvesting or the farming activity.
  • Right top is depicting a musing concert.
  • Bottom left is depicting the Holi festival
  • Right Bottom is a Marriage procession
  • Center - Goddess worship and tribal dance
This is my armature attempt at it. I too inspirations from number of people on the Internet to finish this. I hope you all like it.

Thanks for visiting!

My first blog

Yippeeeeeeee... finally I write my first blog. I have always been apprehensive about writing one. Exposing yourself to the world out there always felt a little crazy. But today I take the first step towards entering the cyber world. Putting my thoughts before my apprehension.

People have asked me over years that why I did not write blogs. Earlier the question that I always faced was "What to write about?". THere was nothing that excited or disappointed me so much to sit down and write about it. I have always been a reserved person and writing down my thoughts/life and sharing it with everyone has never been my fortey.
But then I decided to write about something that I enjoy the most, that is Art & craft. I did not know, until recently that I am so passionate about it.
I have always been a creative person. I can't sit idle. I always want to do something creative. Now that could be anything, a painting, ceramic work, album, flowers, lantern, etc. If I dont do it for a while it feels as if something is not right.
Not very long ago I saw these blogs about Mini album scrap booking... and i was totally hooked. These days I eat sleep and drink Scrap :)

There are so many talented people out there doing so many beautiful things and I had no idea that this existed. I was so overwhelmed after seeing what they have made that now i am officially addicted to it.. addicted to scrapping :).

This love and passion for art and craft = scrap booking made me write this blog.
